Introduction This handbook is written for people who are injecting drugs. It may also be of use to health and other workers who want to advise injecting drug users on how to reduce the risks of injecting. The information on infection risks in the handbook is the same as that given by the Australian Intravenous Users League (AIVL) national hepatitis C education and prevention program, and is based on the best available evidence. There is no completely safe way of injecting drugs. Injecting a drug (rather than smoking, swallowing or sniffing it) carries a much greater risk of overdose, vein damage and infection. The information on this site is not here to teach you to inject if you are not already doing it. A website is no substitute for talking things through - so if there is anything you are not sure about, or if you have any problems, questions or worries, talk them over with your drug worker, needle exchange worker or GP. | ||||
