Treating overdose If someone has overdosed and is unconscious, you need to lie them in the recovery position so that their airway is clear and they cannot choke on vomit or saliva. You need to dial 000 for an ambulance if someone is: - Unconscious
- Not responding to pain
- Snoring or breathing slowly or erratically
- Turning blue (this usually starts with the lips)
- Being sick while unconscious (because they can choke on the vomit)
- Going over having taken methadone or alcohol or tranquillizers before using heroin
- Still semiconscious or unconscious after three minutes.
When you dial 000 you need to tell them: - Where the person is
- What you think they have taken.
Stay with the person who has overdosed until the ambulance arrives and tell the ambulance crew as much as you can about what the person has taken and when they took it.
